Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 17, 2026
DeFiSect is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We believe in transparency and minimal data collection — we only gather what is necessary to operate and improve the site.
What Data We Collect
We collect a very limited amount of data to understand how our content performs and to deliver our newsletter:
- Page view counts. When you visit an article, we record an anonymous view event. This includes only the page identifier and a timestamp. We do not record your IP address, browser fingerprint, or any personally identifiable information as part of view tracking.
- Newsletter subscriptions. If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address so we can send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us at contact@defisect.com.
Cookies and Local Storage
DeFiSect does not use cookies. The only client-side storage we use is a single
localStorage entry to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). This
data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to our servers.
No Third-Party Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking service. We do not run advertisements on the site. No third-party scripts are loaded that could track your behavior across the web. Your reading activity on DeFiSect stays between you and us.
Data Storage and Security
All data is stored on our self-hosted infrastructure on a Hetzner VPS located in the European Union. We use PocketBase as our backend database, which stores article view counts and subscriber email addresses. The server is secured with standard industry practices including SSH key authentication, firewall rules, and encrypted HTTPS connections via Let's Encrypt certificates.
We retain view count data indefinitely as aggregated analytics. Newsletter subscriber emails are retained until you request removal.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. Period. Your email address, if provided through newsletter signup, is used solely by DeFiSect to send editorial updates. We do not share subscriber lists with partners, advertisers, or anyone else.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your data (including newsletter unsubscription).
- Ask questions about how your data is processed.
Since we collect minimal data, in most cases the only personal data we may hold is your email address if you subscribed to our newsletter.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
